Carclaze School Governors

Carclaze School Local Governing Body
This section of the website tells you all about Carclaze School Governing Body. We are a small group of dedicated and hardworking individuals who work together as a team, with school improvement at the forefront of all our work.
The full Governing body meet at least 6 times during the year. We also have smaller groups of Governors who meet regularly to discuss aspects of school life.
The RAP group consists of three Governors who meet with the Headteacher and Senior Leaders, to support and challenge the schools' actions towards raising achievement.
The curriculum group of Governors meet to discuss curriculum subjects and subsequently carry out follow up visits to the school to see the curriculum being delivered in the classes.
In addition to these groups, each Governor has an area they are responsible for and termly visits to the school take place to support and challenge in these areas. As Governors we provide a voice for the children, parents, staff and wider community.
As Governors of Carclaze School we feel that it is also very important to become immersed in school life wherever possible and be recognisable amongst the children and all staff. A recent development is that we have been attending more social events such as School fairs, Christmas dinner and Class trips. It is so rewarding to see the school in action and also build relationships with children and staff.

As a chartered chemical engineer, I am currently the Minerals Technology Manager at Imerys and I am hugely passionate about both subjects. My wife Emma works in the school office and I have two daughters in years 5 and Reception, both of whom are thriving in the Carclaze environment. It's a privilege for me to give something back to the community.

  • Mrs Helen Knight

    Board Appointed Governor 12/05/17

I have been a parent governor since July 2017. I have 3 children, 2 of whom attend Carclaze and my eldest daughter is at Penrice academy. My background is that I have been a primary school teacher since 1997. I have taught all ages from 4-11 and I was a member of the senior leadership team at my last school. My life took a massive turn of events when I was diagnosed with a serious illness in 2015. I am now enjoying family time and voluntary work whilst I fully recover. I am still passionate about education and believe that my experience and expertise will play a valuable role in helping Carclaze on their continual desire for excellence and achievement.

  • Mrs Jenny Wood

    Teacher Governor

Hi, I am a mother of two children aged 6 and 9. I am very passionate about teaching the next generation and love my job. I have been teaching for 13 years in each of the different year groups in various primary schools in Cornwall. For the past 5 years I have taught at Carclaze. During my time at Carclaze I have undertaken various roles such as Pupil Premium, Real Projects and Science Leads. I have undertaken and completed the National Professional Qualification for Middle leaders. Most recently I have completed the Diploma for Trauma Informed Schools practitioner and plan to implement that at Carclaze through my PSHE and values role. My career has been very exciting at Carclaze with many different opportunities made available to me. I hope as a teacher governor I will learn about different aspects of school life.
