    Speech and language therapy

At Carclaze Community Primary School we have a trained Speech & Language Teaching Assistant – Mrs Tanya Bilkey.

We are able to offer support for pupils that would benefit from input on either a one to one level or in a small group to develop their speech sound development and language skills.  Speech sound practise for clarity and production of a clear speech sound system is essential for progression in all areas of literacy, communication and social skills.

Mrs Bilkey has over 10 years experience working under Speech & Language Therapists from St Austell Community Hospital. The Speech & Language therapist that currently monitors Carclaze Community Primary School is Miss Laura Newing.  Laura & Tanya meet with Mrs Sandra Gynn (SENDCO) to discuss and assess pupils progress and Laura advises on recommendation for each child.

Working alongside the NHS has enabled Tanya to keep up-to-date with training recommendations, all sessions are delivered and adapted to make sessions fun and interactive.

Parents /Carers are kept fully informed of their child’s progress throughout the programme and are actively encouraged to be part of their child’s success.

Families are free to speak to us at any time.

I work with children with identified speech and language difficulties – this can be pronunciation difficulties or difficulty with expressive and receptive language. In my sessions, I implement advice from speech and language therapists, targeting each child’s specific needs. There is a page on Speech and Language Therapy provision that gives more detail about the support we offer.
