My love of reading began in 1986, racing home from St Merryn Primary School to catch the next chapter of George’s Marvellous Medicine, read by Rik Mayall on Jackanory. I was instantly hooked - on the wild worlds of imagination that Roald Dahl conjured and the unforgettable voices Rik Mayall gave each character (Grandma was delightfully wicked!).

Since then, I’ve been exploring magical lands from Narnia to Hogwarts - yes, I’m a proud Hufflepuff! My wand is Rowan wood with a dragon heartstring core, 13 inches and reasonably supple, and my Patronus is a Piebald Stallion.

As a teacher, I’ve loved seeing my students’ imaginations come alive with books like Holes, The Lost Thing, and The Colour Monster. At home, reading remains an adventure and naturally George’s Marvellous Medicine, complete with dramatic voices, is a family favourite.

As an adult, my love of fantasy has evolved into a fascination with dystopian futures, enjoying stories such as The Hunger Games series. For me, books are more than stories—they’re portals to magic, mischief, and marvel, and I feel lucky to share that joy every day.
